The State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) has launched an investigation into complaints made by the mother of a four-year-old boy regarding the way he was treated within the public healthcare system.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, OKYPY said it had taken note of media reports concerning the mother’s allegations and had already begun investigating the case to establish the facts.
Organisation expresses sympathy
OKYPY expressed its sympathy to the child’s family and said every complaint is handled with the utmost seriousness, responsibility and objectivity, in line with the organisation’s established procedures.
The OKYPY investigation follows public allegations by the boy’s parents, who claim there were delays and errors in the handling of their son’s condition.
Child remains in critical condition
According to information made public, the four-year-old was initially taken by his parents to Limassol General Hospital after developing symptoms that were later linked to meningitis.
As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Makarios Hospital, where he remains in an extremely critical condition.
Media reports have stated that the child is believed to be brain dead. However, this has not been confirmed by OKYPY in its statement.
Parents allege delays in treatment
The boy’s parents have attributed responsibility to both the paediatrician treating the child and doctors at Limassol General Hospital, alleging that the seriousness of his condition was not assessed in time.
