Cyprus Police are investigating a suspected abduction with intent to commit murder following the disappearance of a 61-year-old woman in Limassol. A 43-year-old suspect has been arrested and was remanded in custody for eight days by the Limassol District Court on Saturday.

According to testimony obtained by investigators, the missing woman was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the suspect, with financial disagreements reportedly causing tension between them.

Investigations remain ongoing, with police also examining the possibility that other individuals may have been involved.

Police suspect criminal activity behind disappearance

Speaking to reporters, Limassol Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou said that initial investigations following the disappearance revealed evidence suggesting possible criminal activity.

“The missing persons protocol was immediately activated. Investigations were carried out, and evidence soon emerged indicating that a criminal act may have been committed,” he explained.

Following the publication of the woman’s photograph and details of her disappearance, police received information that was subsequently assessed and investigated, strengthening suspicions of criminal involvement.

Investigators eventually identified evidence pointing towards a specific 43-year-old man.

According to Kyriakou, the suspect allegedly purchased an airline ticket online and attempted to leave Cyprus after the missing woman’s photograph was made public.

“He was located and arrested,” Kyriakou confirmed, adding that the offence under investigation is abduction with intent to commit murder.

Alleged romantic relationship and financial disputes

Asked about the relationship between the suspect and the missing woman, as well as possible motives, Kyriakou said witness testimony suggested that the two had been romantically involved.

According to the same testimony, the 43-year-old allegedly told the woman that he owed a substantial amount of money in connection with a personal matter and had been asking her for financial assistance.

“This appears to have been one of the points of friction between them,” Kyriakou said.

The suspect has provided his own account of events but continues to deny any involvement in the woman’s disappearance.

Investigators focus on last mobile phone signal

Regarding efforts to locate the missing woman, Kyriakou said her vehicle was discovered parked in the Linopetra area the day after the disappearance was reported.

The vehicle was seized by authorities and transferred for forensic examination.

At the same time, police conducted searches in open areas based on information concerning the last recorded signal from the woman’s mobile phone.

Asked whether investigators had identified a possible route taken by the suspect or had any indication of the woman’s whereabouts, Kyriakou responded:

“The only thing we have is the last signal transmitted by the missing woman’s mobile phone.”

He explained that authorities would continue examining the location of the final signal in an attempt to obtain further evidence.

So far, however, the woman has not been located.

Women’s clothing found in suspect’s luggage

Police are also investigating women’s clothing reportedly discovered inside the suspect’s luggage.

Asked whether the garments matched those worn by the missing woman when she left her home, Kyriakou said the matter remained under investigation.

Authorities have not yet established whether the clothing is connected to the disappearance.

Disappearance reported on 28 October

The woman’s disappearance was officially reported to police on 28 October 2026 by her legal adviser.

According to the initial complaint, she had been missing from her Limassol residence since 23 October.

Kyriakou emphasised that police began investigating immediately after receiving the report and that efforts are continuing to establish what happened and locate the missing woman.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the suspect denies involvement in the case.
