Dust wave hits Cyprus: When it is expected to ease

Date:

A weak low-pressure system is affecting Cyprus, bringing a mix of dust, cloud cover and localised rain as part of the current Cyprus weather pattern.

Dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere until Sunday, with concentrations at times elevated, impacting air quality across the island.

Rain and storms expected

Today, the weather will be partly cloudy with medium and high cloud cover, while isolated showers are expected, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms.

Winds will blow mainly from the northeast to southeast, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and locally up to very strong at 6 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to rough, and locally rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 25°C inland, about 24°C along the coast, and 18°C in the higher mountains.

Cooler night ahead

Tonight, conditions will remain partly cloudy. Winds will ease to light to moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea will remain slightly rough.

Temperatures will drop to 13°C inland, around 16°C on the coast, and 7°C in the higher mountainous areas.

Weekend brings temperature drop

On Saturday, the weather will be partly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. A noticeable drop in temperature is expected, falling below average seasonal levels.

On Sunday, skies will be mostly cloudy, with local showers and isolated storms mainly affecting mountainous areas and the eastern half of the island.

By Monday, increased cloud cover, particularly in the afternoon, may bring isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and southern to southeastern coastal areas.

Temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable on Sunday and Monday, following Saturday’s drop.
