Search continues for 22-year-old student, ransom demand and no further contact

Date:

Concern is growing over the missing student case involving 22-year-old Shahruar Ahmed Emon, whose whereabouts remain unknown after he disappeared last week.

The young man, who lived in an apartment in Oroklini with other individuals, has been missing since Friday, prompting an ongoing police investigation.

Last known movements before disappearance

According to information released by police, 12 June was expected to be the first day of work for the student at a factory in Kofinou. However, he reportedly did not tell his flatmates the exact location where he would be working.

Later that evening, the 22-year-old sent a message through a mobile phone application to a friend containing a specific location. No further communication followed after that message.

Ransom demand reported

Authorities said that later the same night, the father of the missing student, who lives abroad, received a phone call and messages from an unknown person demanding money in exchange for his son’s release.

The case has raised serious concerns following earlier reports suggesting possible abduction circumstances.

Police continue investigations

According to a report published by local newspaper Philenews, the last signal from the student’s mobile phone was allegedly traced to Kofinou. Police, however, stated that investigators decided not to release information relating to the phone’s location data at this stage.

Police also released two new photographs of the 22-year-old on Wednesday as part of efforts to locate him.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist in locating Shahruar Ahmed Emon to contact the Larnaca CID at 24-804096 or 24-804060, call the Citizen’s Line at 1460, or contact the nearest police station.
