24-year-old dies after scooter crash in Limassol

A 24-year-old scooter rider has died after a crash in Limassol that left him critically injured on 26 July.

According to police, the victim was Ibrahim Al Awat, a 24-year-old man from Syria, who had been receiving treatment in a critical condition following the road collision.

Police investigation continues

According to Limassol Traffic Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the scooter rider was not wearing a helmet or a fluorescent safety marking at the time of the crash.

Police said he was travelling along Solon Street, a road where the use of personal mobility devices is not permitted.

Investigators also found that the rider allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the junction with Sappho Street, resulting in a collision with a car travelling northbound.

The driver of the vehicle initially left the scene but was later located and arrested.

Driver questioned and released

The 20-year-old driver was questioned by police and later released.

Authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
