Weak low pressure continues to affect the region, while thin dust will be present in the atmosphere at times, influencing Cyprus weather conditions.
Cloudy skies with rain and thunderstorms
Today, the weather will be mainly cloudy, with localised rainfall expected. During the afternoon, showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms. Winds will blow mainly from the northeast to southeast, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, while on windward coasts they will be strong to very strong, reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort and at times up to 6 to 7 Beaufort.
The sea will be moderate. Temperatures will rise to around 12°C inland, about 15°C along the coasts and 4°C in the higher mountainous areas, where frost will form locally.
Tonight: rain, storms and snow in Troodos
Tonight, Cyprus weather will remain mainly cloudy with local rain, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms. Snow or sleet is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos.
Winds will initially be northeast to southeast and later turn north to northeast, moderate at 4 Beaufort and locally up to very strong at 5 Beaufort.
The sea will remain moderate. Temperatures will fall to around 8°C inland, 11°C along the coasts and 4°C in the higher mountains, with local frost.
Outlook for the coming days
On Friday, the weather will be partly cloudy with isolated showers at times, while snow or sleet may occur on the highest peaks of Troodos.
On Saturday, local rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast, along with snowfall in the higher mountainous areas. Conditions are expected to improve significantly during the afternoon.
On Sunday, the weather will be partly cloudy. Temperatures are forecast to gradually rise through Sunday, mainly inland, reaching close to or slightly above average seasonal levels.
At the time of the bulletin’s issuance, snow depth at Chionistra stood at 20 centimetres.
