Stone began her career as a fashion model before moving into acting in the late 1970s. Early roles included appearances in films such as Stardust Memories (1980), directed by Woody Allen, and several television productions. However, it was the 1992 thriller Basic Instinct that made her an international star. Her portrayal of crime novelist Catherine Tramell became one of the most talked-about performances in modern cinema and cemented her reputation as a bold and charismatic actress.

She continued her success with roles in films such as Casino (1995), directed by Martin Scorsese, where she played Ginger McKenna opposite Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. The performance earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and an Academy Award nomination, widely regarded as one of the defining moments of her career.
