A Paphos police chase on Friday led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man who had been wanted in connection with the robbery and serious injury of a 70-year-old woman earlier this month.
The suspect was located during a coordinated operation involving the Paphos CID, Paphos Traffic Department and other members of the local police directorate. Officers spotted him driving a car stolen between 13 and 17 November in Limassol.
Attempted escape and collisions with police vehicle
According to police, the 32-year-old attempted to flee, driving dangerously through the area. During the Paphos police chase, he collided twice with a police vehicle before the car came to a halt after the second impact.
Both the suspect and a second man, who was in the passenger seat, abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape on foot. Officers fired warning shots with their service weapons, managing to stop and arrest the 32-year-old despite his resistance.
Drugs, gas launcher and stolen plates
A search of the suspect found small quantities of cannabis and crystal methamphetamine — each weighing around half a gram — along with a gas-emitting device and a set of car keys.
The vehicle he had been driving also carried stolen number plates taken in Paphos the previous day.
Robbery and serious injury of a 70-year-old
The case dates back to 4 November, when a 70-year-old woman was robbed while standing beside her car in an open area in Paphos. An unknown man opened the passenger door, stole her bag and mobile phone, and attempted to flee in his vehicle.
When the woman tried to stop him, she was struck by the car and sustained a serious shoulder injury, including a fracture.
Police investigations continue, while efforts to locate the second suspect are ongoing.
