Larnaca Marathon 2026 to welcome 14,000 runners

Date:

The Larnaca Marathon 2026 will take place on Sunday, 15 November, with a new name, a redesigned marathon route and more than 14,000 runners from 85 countries expected to participate.

Now known as the Radisson Hotels Larnaca Marathon, the event is preparing to welcome thousands of runners and visitors, further strengthening its international profile, according to a statement from the organisers.

With more than 1,000 entries in the full marathon, this year’s event is also expected to promote Larnaca as a sports tourism destination.

The major changes and planned activities were presented at a press conference on Tuesday, 20 October, at the Radisson Blu Hotel Larnaca, attended by organisers, sponsors, partners and media representatives.

Expanded partnership with Radisson Hotels

According to the announcement, the new name, Radisson Hotels Larnaca Marathon, reflects an expanded partnership with Radisson Hotels.

The Radisson Beach Resort Larnaca has joined the Radisson Blu Hotel Larnaca, which has supported the event since 2017, marking a new chapter for the marathon.

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras highlighted the marathon’s contribution to promoting the city internationally and establishing it as a destination for major sporting events.

Makis Nicolaou, Group Operations Manager of Sunnyseeker Hotels, representing Radisson Hotels, said supporting the event demonstrated the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its desire to contribute to the development of the local community.

Konstantinos Daltas, founder of the Radisson Hotels Larnaca Marathon, reflected on the event’s beginnings in 2017 and its development over the years.

He also spoke about the new chapter beginning this year, with the continuing aim of promoting Larnaca and bringing people together through sport.

Athens Marathon flame to arrive in Larnaca

A highlight of this year’s programme will be the arrival of the flame of the Authentic Athens Marathon in Larnaca on 13 November, symbolising the enduring values of marathon running.

Paralympic athlete champions inclusion

Accessibility and equal participation remain central to the event.

Paralympic fencing athlete Kelly Loufaki will serve as VIP Athlete Ambassador, while Stoiximan will promote inclusion through its Stoiximan Wheels of Change team, in cooperation with AbleBook and the “Yparcho” Education and Rehabilitation Centre.

Olympic gold medallist in artistic gymnastics Lefteris Petrounias will also attend the event in Larnaca alongside Stoiximan.

Marathon supports premature babies charity

This year, the marathon has selected the “Mora Thavmata” (Miracle Babies) Association as its official charity partner.

Speaking at the press conference, association president Elena Megalemou Triantafyllidi said the marathon symbolises endurance, perseverance and the strength to keep going even when the journey is difficult.

She added that these are the same values that define the daily struggles of premature babies and their families.

In a symbolic gesture, the organisers decided to donate to the association the money originally allocated for commemorative gifts for guests attending the press conference.

Environmental initiatives and children’s race

The marathon’s environmental initiative, Green Strides, will continue with support from Bioland Energy Group.

Planned activities include beach clean-ups and recycling initiatives involving runners, volunteers and visitors.

The McDonald’s Kids Race 1 km will also return to the programme. Described as the largest children’s running event in Cyprus, it continues to receive support from McDonald’s Cyprus and offers thousands of children the opportunity to experience the enjoyment of sport and participation.
