Christodoulides and Erdoğan hold brief exchange at EPC Summit

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides had a brief conversation on Friday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit in Tirana, Albania.

According to reports, President Christodoulides told President Erdoğan that in order for there to be real progress, both on the Cyprus issue and in EU-Turkey relations, they themselves must engage in direct talks. He added that especially now, with the appointment of an EU envoy — which demonstrates the EU’s interest — progress can be achieved. The President further stressed that it is now up to them to seize this opportunity.

On his part, the Turkish President said he is in favour of dialogue and that they are interested in EU-Turkey relations, the same reports state.
