The Department of Meteorology has issued a new yellow warning for isolated strong thunderstorms, valid from 10:00 on Friday until 17:00. The unstable weather is expected to continue affecting the island until Monday.
The storms are expected to initially affect the western half of the island before potentially spreading to other areas. Hail is also possible during thunderstorms, while winds are expected to shift direction and strengthen.
Rainfall could exceed 35mm per hour
Rainfall intensity is expected to locally exceed 35 millimetres per hour during the strongest storms.
The Meteorological Department is also warning of rapidly changing and strengthening winds in storm-affected areas.
Unsettled weather to continue
According to the latest forecast, an unstable air mass will continue to affect Cyprus through Monday. Local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, particularly in the west, north and mountainous areas.
The latest forecast also indicates that hail remains possible in areas affected by thunderstorms.
