Heavy rainfall is affecting several areas of Cyprus, causing water to accumulate on parts of the Limassol-Paphos motorway near Polemidia, according to police.
Rain is also affecting the Nicosia-Limassol motorway in the Kakoratzia-Choirokoitia areas, as well as the Larnaca-Ayia Napa motorway between Kosi and Oroklini.
Police are urging drivers to exercise particular caution, keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead and switch on their headlights.
Unsettled weather expected through Monday
An unstable air mass is expected to affect Cyprus through Monday.
Today, the weather will initially be partly cloudy, with isolated showers mainly in the west and north. It will gradually become mainly cloudy by the afternoon, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail is also possible in areas affected by thunderstorms.
Winds will be mainly southwesterly to westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and temporarily strong at 5 Beaufort on windward areas. The sea will be slightly rough.
Temperatures will reach around 28C inland and on the southern and eastern coasts, around 26C on the remaining coasts and 17C in the highest mountains.
Rain and thunderstorms over the weekend
Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy at times, with isolated showers possible, mainly along the coast. Winds will be northwesterly to northeasterly, while along the northern coast they will be southeasterly, light at 3 Beaufort.
The sea will be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will fall to around 15C inland, 18C on the coasts and 8C in the highest mountains.
The weather will remain intermittently mainly cloudy over the weekend and on Monday, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms expected at intervals.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain slightly below average for the season throughout the three-day period.
