The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a new yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms. A weather disturbance will affect the island from 10 PM tonight until 5 PM on Saturday, bringing periods of rain and isolated storms.
Rain, thunderstorms, and hail expected
The weather will start affecting the western parts of the island and gradually spread to other regions. Storms may include hail, and winds are expected to vary and intensify.
Rainfall could reach 35–55 millimeters per hour in some areas.
Forecast details for tonight
Tonight, conditions will deteriorate gradually, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms, initially in the west and later across the island. High-altitude areas may see snow or sleet. Winds will blow from the northeast to southeast at 3–4 Beaufort, reaching 4–5 Beaufort along coastal areas.
Seas will remain rough to very rough, particularly in northern and eastern waters. Temperatures will drop to around 9°C inland, 12°C along the coast, and 4°C in higher elevations, with possible frost in mountainous regions.
Saturday weather outlook
Saturday will remain mostly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Storms may bring hail, and snow or sleet is expected in higher elevations. Conditions should improve noticeably from the afternoon. Winds and sea conditions will remain similar to tonight, with temperatures reaching 14°C inland, 16°C on southwest, west, and north coasts, 15°C along southeast and east coasts, and 6°C in highlands.

- Sunday: Partly to mostly cloudy, isolated rain mainly in mountainous areas; temperatures rise slightly above seasonal averages.
- Monday: Partly cloudy turning mostly cloudy, with isolated showers.
- Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with isolated showers; weather deteriorates from evening with local rain and thunderstorms.
- Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms.
Snow depth at Chionistra currently measures 17 cm.
