Paphos murder: 78-year-old confesses, hands over weapon – Victim’s link to suspect revealed
The investigation into the murder of 73-year-old Aristeidis Siamtanis in Paphos has taken significant developments, with both new forensic details and a personal link between the victim and the suspect now coming to light.
Earlier today, around 11:10 a.m., Siamtanis was found unconscious in a ditch near the main road to Paphos Airport by relatives. Members of the Paphos Police Directorate and forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou were called to the scene, where they conducted an autopsy.
During the examination, multiple small wounds were identified on the victim’s back and gluteal region, believed to have been caused by pellets from a hunting rifle.
As part of the investigation and evaluation of witness evidence, a 78-year-old man was identified as a suspect. He was arrested under a court warrant and taken into custody.
Shortly after his arrest, the suspect — a Greek Cypriot — confessed to the murder and handed over the weapon allegedly used in the crime: a hunting shotgun. According to Sigma correspondent Marios Ignatiou, the victim’s current partner was, a decade ago, married to the suspect — a key detail that appears to link the two men.
The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID) continues to investigate the case as premeditated murder.
