One of three men injured after falling from the FILANTA apartment complex in Larnaca during a Civil Registry and Migration Department operation on Wednesday is in critical condition, according to police.
The other two men are described as seriously injured but not in life-threatening condition.
Fall from fourth floor under investigation
Police said the first man fell from the fourth floor into an open courtyard, sustaining a serious head injury. He was transported by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital.
Two additional men were later found injured in a separate courtyard at the rear of the building and were evacuated using a fire service rescue platform before being taken to the hospital.
Authorities said the circumstances surrounding all three falls remain under investigation.
Police operation across residential complex
The operation, carried out by the Civil Registry and Migration Department together with the police, targeted individuals residing in the Republic without legal permits.
Cyprus Police cordoned off all five blocks of the FILANTA apartment complex and launched an inquiry into the incident.
It remains unclear whether any arrests were made during the operation.
Residents describe sudden police presence
Residents said police arrived at around 09:30 and began searching apartments across the complex.
One resident told local media that some apartments in one of the buildings were reportedly unoccupied and had been squatted.
Another resident said people fell during the raid, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.
Safety concerns over FILANTA complex
The FILANTA complex, which consists of five residential blocks, has previously been flagged over safety and hygiene concerns, with authorities warning owners to address ongoing issues.
The incident comes months after a similar case in Limassol in April 2024, when two men jumped from a building during a migration raid, resulting in one fatality.
An investigation by the Independent Authority for the Investigation of Allegations and Complaints Against the Police previously found no wrongdoing by officers in that case.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s incident.
