Flights were suspended at Munich International Airport on Thursday night after sightings of a drone in the area, causing the cancellation of 17 flights and affecting nearly 3,000 passengers.
The airport confirmed operations were halted around 22:30 local time after drones were reported flying over the site. Earlier, at around 21:30, eyewitnesses had spotted a drone near the Munich airport, prompting police investigations.
Police spokesman Stefan Bayer told Bild newspaper that the drones were seen again about an hour later, this time directly over the airport, leading authorities to suspend all take-offs and landings.
The disruption lasted until the airport reopened on Friday morning.
It is worth noting that flight numbers are already restricted between 22:00 and midnight to limit noise pollution, and Munich airport does not operate at all after midnight.
