Macron: France stands with the Cypriot people

Macron’s visit to Cyprus took place at the Presidential Palace, marking the first official bilateral visit by a French President to the Republic of Cyprus since its establishment in 1960.

French President Emmanuel Macron was welcomed by President Nikos Christodoulides in an official ceremony featuring a military honour guard.

As part of the visit, the two national anthems were played before Macron laid a wreath at the statue of Cyprus’ first President, Archbishop Makarios III.

The ceremony underscored the symbolic and historical significance of the visit, reflecting long-standing diplomatic relations between Cyprus and France.

Bilateral talks at Presidential Palace

Following the official reception, Macron’s visit continued with a private meeting between the two leaders inside the Presidential Palace.

The agenda was expected to focus on bilateral cooperation, EU policy coordination and regional developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Expanded talks between the two delegations were also scheduled to follow.

During the meeting, Macron reportedly reaffirmed France’s support for Cyprus, stating that both the country and its people can count on French backing.

The visit highlighted shared priorities between the two nations within the European Union framework.
