Italian frigate Federico Martinengo operates in Cyprus waters

The Italian missile frigate Federico Martinengo is currently operating in the waters around Cyprus, Italian authorities confirmed.

Multinational naval operation

The frigate departed from the Italian port of Taranto last Friday. Its crew consists of more than 160 men and women of the Italian Navy. Federico Martinengo is participating in a coordinated operation in Cyprus alongside Spain, France and the Netherlands.

The French aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle is also present in the area, supporting multinational naval operations.

Previous missions

Last year, the Martinengo completed its mission with the EU’s EUNAVFOR Aspides operation in the Red Sea, protecting commercial shipping from Houthi threats, before returning to its home base in Taranto.
