GESY beneficiaries are being warned about malicious SMS messages that appear to come from the health system and may attempt to obtain personal or financial information.
The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) and Cyprus Police issued the warning following reports of fraudulent messages being sent to mobile phones.
The messages may appear under the name “GESY” or use other names that suggest they have been sent by healthcare service providers.
Some of the malicious SMS messages may also appear on a phone directly below legitimate messages previously sent by GESY, potentially making them appear authentic.
What GESY will never ask for by SMS
The HIO stressed that it will never ask beneficiaries by SMS for passwords, login credentials, payment details or other personal information.
It also does not ask citizens to make payments or other financial transactions through links sent via text message.
The HIO and Cyprus Police are urging anyone who receives a suspicious message not to click or open any link included in it.
Beneficiaries are advised to delete the SMS immediately.
