Nobel laureate receives medical care

Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi has been transferred to a hospital in Tehran after suffering a health emergency, according to a foundation run by her family.

She was moved to Pars Hospital after being granted a temporary suspension of her prison sentence following the payment of a substantial bail.

Health condition and recent cardiac issue

Mohammadi, 54, reportedly suffered a heart attack two weeks ago while serving her prison sentence.

She had initially been treated in a hospital in Zanjan, north-west of Tehran, before her family requested her transfer to the capital for more advanced medical care.

She is now under the supervision of her own medical team.

Prison sentence and ongoing case

The activist was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 while imprisoned for her campaign promoting women’s rights and opposing the death penalty.

She was later sentenced to an additional 7.5 years in prison, according to her foundation, amid ongoing legal proceedings in Iran.

International reaction

The Nobel Committee had previously called for her immediate release, citing concerns over her detention and health condition.

Her case has drawn widespread international attention, particularly regarding human rights and freedom of expression in Iran.
