High temperatures, winds and local rain in mountains

Date:

Cyprus will see high temperatures and strong winds today, with isolated showers expected in mountainous areas during the afternoon.

According to the Meteorological Service, weak low pressure is affecting the area. The weather will be mostly clear through the day, though clouds are expected to develop locally over the mountains later in the day, possibly bringing isolated rain showers.

Winds will initially blow from the northeast to southeast, later shifting to southwest. They will range from light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and may locally reach strong levels (4 to 5 Beaufort). The sea will be slightly rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 36°C inland, 31°C on the coasts, and 28°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear, though localised mist or low cloud may form. Winds will be variable, mainly blowing from the northwest to northeast, at light to moderate strength. The sea will remain slightly rough. Overnight temperatures will fall to around 22°C inland and along the coast, and 17°C in the mountains.

For Wednesday through Friday, conditions will stay mostly clear, and temperatures will gradually rise, remaining above average for the season.
