Commissioner visits coordination centre
European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Olivér Várhelyi, is visiting Cyprus today for meetings regarding foot-and-mouth disease and related management measures.
According to his schedule, he visited the ZENON Coordination Centre at 08:30 for talks with the Minister of Agriculture and representatives of affected livestock farms.
Meetings with stakeholders
The Commissioner will also meet with stakeholders, including agricultural organisations, producers, and officials from relevant government departments.
Political and presidential meetings
Following these discussions, Olivér Várhelyi will meet representatives of political parties, and later he will be received at the Presidential Palace by President Nikos Christodoulides. At 12:00, both the Commissioner and the Minister of Agriculture are scheduled to make statements at the Presidential Palace.
Prior consultations
On Wednesday, President Christodoulides spoke with European Commission President regarding producer requests to avoid culling asymptomatic animals.
