Fatal road accident in Larnaca

Date:

A fatal road collision that occurred yesterday afternoon in Larnaca resulted in the death of 51-year-old George Remus Strunoiou, a Romanian national.

Specifically, at around 14:20 yesterday, the Police received information about an injured man on a dirt road near the Dipotamos dam, in the Kato Lefkara area.

Police officers attended the scene, where they found two stationary vehicles and a man injured on the ground.

According to initial findings under investigation, a 66-year-old man, while attempting to move his vehicle closer to another stationary vehicle to provide a battery jump-start using cables, under circumstances that are still being investigated, struck and injured the 51-year-old owner of the second vehicle.

The 66-year-old temporarily left the scene to seek help and returned shortly after, accompanied by two other individuals, to assist the injured man.

An ambulance was called to the scene and transported the injured man to Nicosia General Hospital, where, despite the efforts of medical staff, the 51-year-old succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The 66-year-old was tested for alcohol and drugs, with negative results, and was arrested under a court warrant to assist with investigations.

He was later released following a written statement and will be summoned at a later stage.

Larnaca Traffic Department continues its investigation.
