Date:

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man after discovering two specially equipped cannabis greenhouses and large quantities of suspected drugs at a house in Nicosia district.

According to police, officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) carried out the search on Sunday under a court warrant as part of ongoing operations targeting the possession, cultivation and trafficking of illegal drugs.

Cannabis plants and suspected cocaine seized

During the search, officers found two specially designed indoor greenhouses in one room of the property, where nine cannabis plants measuring between 115cm and 190cm were being cultivated.

Police also seized approximately 1.615kg of cannabis, around 90g of a white powder believed to be cocaine, and a precision scale.

Investigators also confiscated equipment allegedly used to cultivate the plants, including machinery for controlling temperature and humidity, irrigation hoses and other cultivation equipment.

The 35-year-old was arrested for offences committed in the act and is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court on Monday for the issuance of a remand order.

The investigation is being conducted by the Morphou branch of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN).
