Nighttime patrols target crime hotspots

Cyprus police continued dynamic, targeted preventive operations last night, increasing their presence at key urban locations. The initiative aims to prevent serious crimes, protect citizens, and maintain public order, the force said.

Arrests and criminal cases

During the operations, police arrested 19 individuals in connection with serious criminal offenses and other violations.

In Limassol, 12 arrests involved assault and public disorder, while the remaining seven arrests related to illegal possession of drugs, illegal stay, and traffic violations.

Vehicle detentions and inspections

Police also detained six vehicles during the investigation of traffic offenses. Additionally, authorities conducted extensive inspections of commercial premises to prevent and suppress unlawful behavior.

Traffic enforcement results

Officers carried out over 450 traffic checks, issuing more than 120 traffic citations. Forty-five citations involved speeding violations. One driver was caught driving 190 km/h in a 100 km/h zone and was immediately arrested.

Ongoing preventive strategy

These operations form part of a wider, ongoing preventive plan by Cyprus police, combining high-visibility patrols, targeted inspections, and swift operational responses across all districts. The strategy focuses on crime prevention and strengthening citizens’ sense of safety.
