A large wildfire in Choletria that broke out early on Tuesday afternoon in an agricultural area of the village has been brought under control.
The fire started at around 1:00 pm and prompted an immediate response from the Fire Service.
Aircraft joined firefighting effort
Aircraft from the Forestry Department assisted with the firefighting operation, despite the blaze being within the Fire Service’s area of responsibility.
According to Sigma correspondent Marios Ignatiou, strong winds in the area made firefighting efforts particularly challenging.
Vegetation destroyed
The fire burned through wild vegetation, trees and dry grass before firefighters succeeded in bringing it under control.
Authorities remain on site to monitor the area and prevent any flare-ups.
