An anti-terrorism exercise will take place at the Central Bank of Cyprus on Friday, October 16, from 9am to 11am, with police and other emergency services expected to increase their presence in the area.
The exercise, named CHRISOS 2026, is organised by Cyprus Police in cooperation with the Central Bank as part of their ongoing collaboration.
Police and emergency services to take part
The full-scale field exercise will simulate operational conditions to assess the readiness and response capabilities of the services involved.
Its objectives include evaluating the effectiveness of security measures, testing coordination procedures and strengthening cooperation between public authorities and private organisations in responding to a terrorist incident affecting the Central Bank’s security.
The exercise will also familiarise staff with crisis-management procedures and the implementation of the Central Bank’s emergency plans.
Cyprus Police units and departments, the Ambulance Service, the Fire Service and the Central Bank’s Security Service will participate.
Increased security presence expected
Police warned that increased activity involving officers and other state forces is expected around the Central Bank during the exercise.
Blank ammunition will also be used within the designated exercise areas as part of the simulated scenario.
Cyprus Police stressed that all activities will take place exclusively as part of the planned exercise and that there is no cause for public concern.
