ABR brings its tiny “birdbox cinemas” to Art Cargo

Date:

22–24 October 2026 | Nicosia city centre

As part of this year’s Art Cargo, ABR – Alternative Brains Rule brings its Birdbox Cinemas into the city with a new selection of four short animated films.

Placed within Art Cargo’s programme in public space, the small screening installations invite visitors to come closer, put their heads inside and discover films about being ourselves, encountering others and finding our place among them.

The programme includes:

  • Love Me, Fear Me by Veronica Solomon. A clay figure performs beneath a spotlight, repeatedly transforming itself in an attempt to provoke a response from an unseen audience. A film about performance, acceptance and how much of ourselves we might change in order to belong.
  • Luce and the Rock by Britt Raes. When a giant Rock suddenly appears in Luce’s peaceful little village, it is immediately seen as something that does not belong. An unexpected encounter gradually reveals that Luce and the unfamiliar visitor may have more in common than they first thought.
  • One, Two, Tree by Yulia Aronova. A tree finds a pair of boots and sets off on an unexpected journey. As others begin to follow, one individual movement gradually becomes a strange and playful procession.
  • Symphony No. 42 by Réka Bucsi. A succession of surreal encounters between humans, animals and other beings builds an unpredictable world in which radically different lives, behaviours and perspectives form part of the same whole.

Together, the four films move from the individual towards something larger. They look at the ways we perform ourselves for others, encounter those who seem unfamiliar, join something beyond ourselves and ultimately inhabit a world made up of radically different beings.

At the centre of the selection is a simple question: how can we belong to something larger without having to become the same?
