24–25 October 2026 | Synergasias Street, Kaimakli, Nicosia
For this year’s Pame Kaimakli, ABR – Alternative Brains Rule brings its Birdbox Cinemas to the neighbourhood with a new selection of four short animated films.
Placed around Synergasias Str, the small screening installations invite visitors to come closer, put their heads inside and discover films about the ways we share space, affect one another, adapt and find ways of being together.
The programme includes:
- LINK by Robert Löbel, in which two characters are physically connected and must learn to move through the world while every action of one affects the other.
- Na klar, zusammen halt… by Lotte Hornstein and Valentin Kemmner, a playful observation of the small adjustments, compromises and acts of consideration involved in sharing everyday life with others.
- ISLAND by Max Mörtl and Robert Löbel, where a collection of strange and very different creatures inhabit the same tiny ecosystem, each becoming part of the world the others experience.
- Balconada by Iva Tokmakchieva, set during a hot summer day when neighbours emerge onto their balconies and one person’s spontaneous action gradually becomes a shared moment.

Together, the four films look at what happens between us. We affect one another, respond to one another, negotiate space and sometimes discover that coexistence is less about sameness than about attention, adaptation and mutual care.
The birdbox cinemas are ABR’s contribution to Pame Kaimakli, a neighbourhood arts festival bringing artists, residents and visitors together through art, participation and shared experiences.
The activation is created as part of EUnity20 and connects with the values of inclusion, solidarity, participation and respect for diversity. Through four short films, the installation invites audiences to reflect on how people and beings with different needs, perspectives and ways of inhabiting space affect one another, adapt and find ways of living together.
Presented during Pame Kaimakli, the Birdbox Cinemas create small, intimate viewing moments inside the public life of the neighbourhood. Each box becomes a tiny cinema, a pause in the street and an invitation to look closely at the shared worlds we build with others.
