President-elect Donald Trump has announced his decision to nominate Kimberly Guilfoyle as the next US ambassador to Greece. Her appointment will require Senate approval following a hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Background on Kimberly Guilfoyle
Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., has served as Assistant Attorney General of California and as an advisor to Donald Trump. She was also previously married to Gavin Newsom, the current Democratic governor of California.
Sources in Washington indicated that there was initial consideration to appoint Representative Gus Bilirakis to the position. Bilirakis, highly trusted by Trump’s inner circle, was deemed exceptionally qualified. However, due to the Republicans’ slim majority in the House of Representatives, it was decided that such a move could jeopardise the legislative agenda of the new administration. Despite this, Bilirakis is expected to continue playing a key role, maintaining open communication with prominent figures in the administration, including the new White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First. pic.twitter.com/S3FjxqCgCx
