A wildfire is burning through dry grass and wild vegetation near the village of Arsos in Limassol district, prompting a major response from emergency services.
According to the Fire Service spokesperson, the blaze started at a rubbish site before spreading to the surrounding vegetation, triggering the immediate mobilisation of firefighting teams.
Ground and aerial resources deployed
Five fully staffed fire engines from Limassol city and district fire stations are tackling the Arsos wildfire, supported by six vehicles from the Department of Forests.
Two bulldozers are also being deployed to create firebreaks and assist ground operations.
From the air, four firefighting aircraft are working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Operations coordinated from Fire Service headquarters
At the same time, the Chief Fire Officer is coordinating the firefighting operation from the Fire Service Operations Centre at headquarters, alongside the head of the Operations Centre and the officer in charge of the incident.
Authorities are expected to issue further updates as the situation develops.
