Rain and storms expected in some areas
The latest weather forecast indicates that a weak low-pressure system is affecting the region, bringing mixed conditions across the island.
Today, the weather will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy at times, with a chance of isolated showers initially along the coasts. By midday and onwards, developing clouds are expected to bring isolated rain and possible thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous areas and parts of the eastern half of the island.
Winds will blow from the southwest to northwest, generally light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming locally strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort along western and southern coasts. The sea will be slight to moderate, and locally rough in western areas.
Temperatures will rise to around 20°C inland and along the coasts, and about 8°C in higher mountainous areas.
Clearer conditions overnight
Tonight, the weather will be mostly clear, although increased low cloud is expected in some coastal areas.
Winds will remain mainly southwest to northwest, and locally northeast, at light to moderate levels of 3 to 4 Beaufort. Sea conditions will become slight to moderate in the west and north, and calm to slight in the south and east.
Temperatures will drop to around 10°C inland, 13°C along the coasts and near 4°C in higher mountainous areas, where frost may form locally.
Outlook for the coming days
On Wednesday, most areas will see mainly clear skies with periods of increased cloud. However, cloud build-up in the afternoon may lead to isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous and inland regions.
Thursday and Friday are expected to be mostly clear.
The weather forecast also indicates a gradual and noticeable rise in temperatures through Friday, bringing values close to or slightly above seasonal averages.
Snow remains in Troodos
Snow depth at Chionistra stood at 15 centimetres at the time of the report, highlighting the continuation of unusual weather conditions for the season.
