Road closure in Engomi for reconstruction of fatal crash

Section of avenue to shut for investigation

A section of Griva Digeni Avenue in Nicosia will be closed tonight as police carry out a reconstruction linked to a fatal road collision in Engomi that occurred on March 27, 2026.

The closure forms part of ongoing investigative procedures into the circumstances of the crash.

According to authorities, the road will be closed from 8pm to 10pm.

The affected section runs from the junction with Agiou Prokopiou Street (Kykkos traffic lights) to the signal-controlled intersection with 25th March Street, in the direction from central Nicosia towards Engomi.

Traffic diversions announced

Traffic will be diverted via Agiou Prokopiou Street towards the Kolokasides roundabout, passing through Agiou Prokopiou, Delfon, Achaion and Kyriakou Matsi streets.

Police have urged drivers to follow instructions and be particularly cautious in the area during the operation.

Reconstruction carried out by specialist unit

The investigations will be conducted by the Traffic Headquarters Crash Examination and Reconstruction Unit, in cooperation with the Nicosia Traffic Police investigative team.

Authorities asked for public understanding over possible inconvenience.

Victim details referenced

The fatal crash involved a 28-year-old member of the Cyprus Anti-Narcotics Unit (YKAN).

Police said the motorcyclist was wearing a protective helmet and was transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death.
