A total of 97,096 commercial flights were recorded at Cyprus’ international airports in Larnaca and Paphos in 2025, according to Eurostat data published on Friday.
Based on the monthly Eurostat figures, Larnaca Airport recorded 73,226 commercial flights during the year, while Paphos Airport recorded 23,870.
The busiest month at both airports was August. Larnaca recorded 8,619 commercial flights and Paphos 2,961, bringing the combined total to 11,580.
Traffic was also high in July, with 8,163 flights at Larnaca and 2,745 at Paphos. In September, the figures stood at 7,727 and 2,713 respectively.
By contrast, February recorded the lowest combined total, with 3,387 flights at Larnaca and 905 at Paphos.
Commercial flights across the EU
Across the European Union, 6.9 million commercial flights were recorded in 2025, up 3.8% from the 6.7 million recorded in 2024.
Eurostat said the number of commercial flights has increased continuously since 2021, with the 2025 figure returning to levels similar to those recorded before the pandemic. Around 7 million commercial flights were recorded across the EU in 2019.
Non-scheduled commercial flights, including charter and other special flights, accounted for 8.5% of all commercial flights in the EU in 2025.
The highest shares of non-scheduled flights were recorded during the summer months. In June, non-scheduled flights accounted for 11.2% of 648,707 total commercial flights. The share rose to 12.3% in July, when 690,855 flights were recorded, before reaching 11.4% in August, with 693,046 flights.
Europe’s busiest airports
Amsterdam Schiphol recorded the highest number of commercial flights among EU airports in 2025, with around 488,000 scheduled and non-scheduled flights.
It was followed by Paris Charles de Gaulle with 476,000 flights and Frankfurt Airport with 457,000.
Among the EU’s 10 busiest airports, Athens International Airport recorded the highest share of non-scheduled flights at 5.2%. It was followed by Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas at 4.8% and Copenhagen-Kastrup at 4.1%.
