Major step for Cyprus as regional innovation hub
Silicon Valley innovation leader Plug and Play Tech Center will officially open its Cyprus Innovation Centre at the Presidential Palace on 7 April 2026. Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis described the launch as a significant milestone in strengthening Cyprus’s position as a competitive regional hub.
Supporting startups and job creation
Plug and Play, present in over 60 locations globally and involved in the early growth of companies such as PayPal and Dropbox, will run six cycles of incubator and accelerator programmes at the Cyprus Centre. These initiatives are expected to support around 60 startups, offering access to investment capital, expertise, and international markets.
The programme is projected to create approximately 500 new jobs in the medium term, while strengthening Cyprus’s links to global investment networks. Letymbiotis highlighted that the development reflects targeted economic diplomacy, including President Christodoulides’s visit to Silicon Valley in May 2025.

Updates on energy and tourism
Regarding the Kronos natural gas field in Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone, Letymbiotis confirmed that the investment plan timelines remain unchanged. Negotiations continue, noting the legal and technical complexities involved, with reference to the recently signed Cyprus-Egypt agreement as context.
On tourism, Letymbiotis reported that most airline flight programmes have returned to full operation, with new routes announced. The government is preparing for a smooth tourist season, coordinating closely with hotel industry bodies and monitoring regional tensions, including developments in Iran, to maintain stability and ensure continuity for international visitors.
