Operation in Geri: Cattle of unknown origin found

Cyprus veterinary authorities, accompanied by police, conducted a targeted operation in the Geri area yesterday after reports of cattle of unknown origin. The move is part of intensified inspections to contain the ongoing spread of foot-and-mouth disease.

Expansion of foot-and-mouth disease

Recent checks have focused on various regions, following the appearance of new cases outside Larnaca, including Dali and Geri in the Nicosia district. Authorities aim to prevent further spread through systematic monitoring and intervention.

Ongoing interventions

Veterinarians and officials continue to intervene at infected holdings, under police escort, to carry out prescribed procedures. According to official reports, the number of affected units has now reached 41.
