Fallen trees and vehicle damage caused by severe weather

Date:

Firefighters responded to 38 incidents across Cyprus in the past 24 hours due to severe weather conditions, while police warned drivers to be cautious as heavy rain and strong winds continue to affect the road network.

According to the spokesperson of the Cyprus Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, fire stations in Nicosia responded to four incidents involving the removal of trees that had fallen due to strong winds.

Firefighters in Limassol handled nine calls in Limassol, Agios Tychonas and Dora. Seven of these incidents involved fallen trees and two involved metal sheets that had been blown away by the wind. Damage to vehicles was reported after trees fell on parked cars.

In Paphos, fire crews responded to four incidents in Paphos, Agia Marina, Pomou and Polis Chrysochous to remove fallen trees and a collapsed canopy. Vehicle damage caused by falling trees was also reported in the district.

Fire stations in Famagusta District handled five calls in Protaras, Paralimni, Deryneia and Xylofagou involving fallen trees, dangerous scaffolding and restaurant signs blown away by strong winds.

In a separate statement on X, the Cyprus Police urged drivers to be particularly careful. Authorities advised motorists to drive at low speeds, keep safe distances from other vehicles and keep their headlights on, as heavy rain and strong winds are causing problems across parts of the road network.
