Christodoulides describes meeting with Erhürman as constructive

Date:

President Nikos Christodoulides described his meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman on Tuesday as very good and constructive, saying discussions would continue during the visit to Cyprus of UN envoy Maria Angela Holguín.

Speaking to journalists after returning to the Presidential Palace, Christodoulides said the meeting had involved a productive exchange of views.

“The fact that no joint statement was issued after the meeting is not connected to any deadlock in the talks, but was a joint decision,” he said.

Discussions with technical committees

Christodoulides said the second part of the meeting, which involved the technical committees and the Advisory Body, had also featured constructive discussions.

Participants shared views and proposals, which the president said he would discuss during his meetings with Erhürman.

The discussions are expected to continue during Holguín’s presence in Cyprus, as efforts to advance engagement between the two sides continue.
