Flight ticket prices surge due to war

Date:

Recent days have seen an increase in flight ticket prices due to tensions in the Middle East. Travel experts in Cyprus, however, stress that the rise is unlikely to significantly affect tourism flows to the island or Cypriots travelling abroad.

Moderate increase, no major impact

Chartered travel expert Charis Papacharalambous told SIGMA’s “Protoselido” show that current fare increases are minor and apply to all tourists regardless of destination.

He emphasised that after record-breaking travel trends by Cypriots over the past three years, there is no reason for panic or concern about ticket prices.

Demand reflects supply

Papacharalambous explained that demand naturally reflects available supply, and demand is influenced by prices. He added that recent fare increases remain in line with broader inflationary trends and do not exceed average societal patterns.

Over the last five years, Cyprus has seen a significant increase in connectivity, contributing to record numbers in both incoming and outgoing tourism.

Timing summer bookings

When asked about the best time to book summer holidays for cheaper fares, Papacharalambous recommended: “The earlier, the better.” He stressed that managing Cyprus’s current international image is crucial to protect summer tourism.
