Mayor attends extended police interrogation
Suspended Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos underwent a police interrogation lasting over two hours on Tuesday afternoon. He was accompanied by his lawyers and questioned regarding an alleged rape that reportedly took place in 2014.
Case originally reported by businessman
The case was first publicly reported by businessman Theodoros Aristodemou. Authorities had already collected statements from the alleged victim and more than ten witnesses prior to the mayor’s interrogation, ensuring investigators had sufficient material to proceed.
Legal clearance obtained from Attorney General
Earlier in the day, investigators from the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Unit (TAE) visited the Attorney General’s office. They received approval to summon the suspended mayor for questioning and received guidance on how to advance the investigation.
Mayor arrives with legal team
The suspended mayor arrived at the interrogation around 4:00 pm, accompanied by his legal representatives, and cooperated with authorities throughout the extended session.
