A major Cyprus cannabis arrest took place at Larnaca airport after police and customs officers discovered nearly 24 kilograms of cannabis in the luggage of a 26-year-old man.
The arrest happened shortly after 5:30pm on Monday, when officers from the Cyprus Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN), in cooperation with the Customs Department, carried out a targeted inspection. The suspect had just arrived on a flight from a European country and attempted to pass through the “Nothing to Declare” channel in the arrivals hall.
During the search, officials found 44 separate packages containing dry cannabis, with a total gross weight of 23.946 kilograms. The drugs were seized immediately, leading to the Cyprus cannabis arrest.
The man was taken into custody and is being held for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation. YKAN’s Larnaca district branch is leading the case, which involves offences of drug importation, possession, and possession with intent to supply.
Authorities continue to intensify checks at entry points in an effort to curb drug trafficking into Cyprus.
