Sweets and chocolates take centre stage during the Easter season. Protoselido hosted the Secretary of the Cyprus Confectioners’ Association, Myria Nikolaou, who spoke about the prices of tsourekia (traditional Easter sweet breads) and chocolate eggs.
She initially mentioned that the market is performing very satisfactorily, as people have been shopping for Easter for the past three weeks.
“They start with the chocolate eggs and leave the tsourekia and flaounes for the final days,” she noted.
Speaking about prices, she said that a plain tsoureki is sold for €6.
“With filling, prices range from €8 to €17,” she added.
She explained, “We tried to keep prices as reasonable as possible because the cost of raw materials has increased significantly.”
Ms Nikolaou noted that the Dubai chocolate flavour is particularly popular this year.
She also pointed out that chocolate eggs have seen a 10% price increase.
“Consumers should be concerned if they come across something unusually cheap in today’s market,” she remarked.
Additionally, fruit creams will also be available for sale.
Finally, she mentioned that confectioneries are expecting peak sales on Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
