A Danish official told President Trump to “f*** off” during a session at the European Parliament

A Danish official has told Donald Trump to “f*** off” as the US president continues to express his desire to buy Greenland.

Trump has repeatedly made calls for US ownership of the world’s largest island, despite being told it is not for sale.

The Danish territory is home to a large US military base and sits in an area of strategic military importance for the US, China, and Russia.

Trump has called US ownership “necessary for international security” and suggested the people of Greenland would be happier with the change.

In response to Trump’s renewed calls, Anders Vistisen, a Danish member of the European Parliament, warned the president that Greenland “is not for sale”.

“Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It’s an integrated part of our country.

“It is not for sale.

“Let me put it in words you might understand. Mr Trump: F*** off.”

After his inauguration ceremony on Monday, Trump called Greenland a “wonderful place” when discussing the idea of buying it.

“I’m sure that Denmark will come along, I think you know it’s costing them a lot of money to maintain it, to keep it.

“The people of Greenland are not happy with Denmark, as you know, I think they’re happy with us.”

He continued: “Greenland is necessary, not for us, it’s necessary for international security.”

This is not the first time Trump has floated the idea of buying Greenland, he also did so in his first term but was shot down by the island’s government.

He later cancelled a 2019 visit to Denmark after his offer to buy Greenland was also rejected by Copenhagen.

Trump previously said he wouldn’t rule out using the military to seize control of Greenland and threatened to impose high tariffs on Denmark if they didn’t hand it over.

His eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, recently visited Greenland on a “private” trip”.

On a post on Truth Social at the time of the trip, Trump said: “Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our nation.”

Previously, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede responded to the president’s comments, quashing any ideas of a deal to buy Greenland.

In December, he wrote on Facebook that Greenland is “not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our year-long struggle for freedom.”

He also called for independence from Denmark, saying in a New Year’s speech that it would be a way for Greenland to free itself from its colonial past, but insisted he has no interest in Greenland becoming part of the United States.

Earlier in January, Mette Frederiksen, Danish Prime Minister, also said “Greenland is for the Greenlandic people.”
