51-year-old man killed in fatal road accident in Limassol

Date:

A 51-year-old man, Georgios Georgiou from Limassol, died on Thursday night following a fatal road accident in Limassol.

The collision occurred at around 8.30 p.m. on the old Limassol–Nicosia road, near the Moni flyover, when a van driven by a 41-year-old man heading towards Limassol collided, under circumstances still being investigated, with the motorcycle ridden by Georgiou.

The motorcyclist was critically injured and transported by ambulance to a private hospital in Limassol, where he later died despite doctors’ efforts to save him.

Police said the van driver tested positive for alcohol, with a reading of 48mg% instead of the permitted 22mg%. A court warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody to assist with the investigation.

The Limassol Traffic Department is examining the circumstances of the fatal road accident.
