Water supply has resumed in Nicosia after repairs were completed on a damaged water pipeline in the national network, according to a statement by the Nicosia Local Government Organisation (LGO).
In a post on social media, the LGO said the Water Development Department had successfully repaired the fault and that its water tanks had since been refilled. The gradual restoration of water supply to affected areas began on Wednesday night.
“We thank residents for their understanding and cooperation,” the Nicosia LGO added.
The statement also noted that, following its establishment in July 2024, the Nicosia LGO had carried out an assessment of the capacity of existing water tanks in the region.
“Based on that evaluation, and determining the existing capacity was insufficient, the LGO proceeded with the construction of a larger GLS-type water tank to serve the Lakatamia area. This new tank, expected to be operational before the end of the year, will increase water supply autonomy from 13 to 37 hours in case of future disruptions from the national network,” the post added.
