Police are investigating a clash in Limassol after two men were seriously injured and five people were arrested in Agios Ioannis following reports of a fight between foreign nationals.
The incident was reported at around 10pm on Sunday, 13 September.
Weapons found in rental car
During checks in the area, police found a rental car containing clubs and a cleaver.
The vehicle was taken to Limassol Police Headquarters for further examination.
A short time later, officers spotted five people who fled when they saw police. Three of them got into a car and attempted to leave the area.
Police stopped the vehicle and identified the three men as aged 21, 27 and 28. The other two, aged 26 and 30, were stopped on foot.
All five were arrested for the offence of illegal assembly and taken to the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department.
Police are investigating whether they were involved in the reported incident.
Two men seriously injured
At around 1am, following information received by police, two injured men aged 24 and 22 were found at two separate locations in Agios Ioannis.
Both were taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment in serious condition.
According to doctors on duty, the 24-year-old suffered skull fractures, an epidural haematoma, a shoulder blade fracture, a vertebral fracture and other injuries.
The 22-year-old suffered an open skull injury with associated fractures, an epidural haematoma and a vertebral fracture.
The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department is continuing its investigation.
