U.S. armed forces carried out an airstrike on a speedboat suspected of drug trafficking in the eastern Pacific on Friday, killing three people on board, according to the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), which oversees military operations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In a statement accompanied by video footage that allegedly shows the strike, SOUTHCOM said the vessel was “engaged in drug-trafficking operations” and that “three narco-terrorists were killed.”
Since last September, the United States has conducted dozens of strikes against vessels suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, resulting in nearly 200 deaths across the Caribbean and Pacific regions. However, Washington has not provided evidence demonstrating that the targeted vessels were engaged in illegal activities.
