The Tychikos hearing before the Ecumenical Patriarchate is scheduled for Friday at 11:30, following the former Metropolitan of Paphos’s appeal against his removal from office by the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus.
According to close associates, Tychikos departed for Athens on Monday and will travel on to Constantinople on Wednesday. He will be accompanied by Professor of Public Law at the Athens Law School, Panagiotis Lazaratos, who is due to arrive at the Phanar on Thursday.
Speaking to CNA, Professor Lazaratos confirmed that the Tychikos hearing will take place on Friday morning. The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate will convene from 16 to 18 October. While the exact procedure has yet to be clarified, Lazaratos noted that both the former Metropolitan and himself are expected to be granted a hearing- marking the first time such matters are addressed in person rather than in writing.
“We are appearing in an ecclesiastical spirit of reconciliation and repentance, while also defending the just positions of His Eminence,” Lazaratos said.
Tychikos is expected to return to Cyprus next Monday.
