Cyprus Police have launched a new criminal investigation following a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of four individuals in Larnaca and Nicosia.
The operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Larnaca, in cooperation with other police units, in relation to alleged offences committed between 2021 and 2024.
Four arrests in Larnaca and Nicosia
Those arrested include two businessmen aged 44 and 42 from Larnaca and Nicosia, respectively, a 49-year-old remand prisoner held at the Central Prisons, and a 45-year-old woman.
All suspects are considered by authorities in connection with a wide-ranging criminal investigation involving multiple alleged offences.
Serious charges under investigation
Police are investigating 14 different offences, including participation in a criminal organisation, conspiracy to commit felonies and misdemeanours, extortion, threats, kidnapping or unlawful detention, fraud, and money laundering.
Authorities are also examining alleged illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
The case forms part of an ongoing criminal investigation into organised criminal activity in the Larnaca district.
Evidence collected during searches
Following the arrests, police conducted searches at various premises and seized several items considered relevant to the investigation.
Officials have not released further details regarding the evidence at this stage.
Court appearance expected
The suspects are expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court on Wednesday, where police will request detention orders as investigations continue.
The CID Larnaca is leading the Cyprus criminal investigation.
