Court orders detention of suspect
A “district court” in Famagusta has ordered the temporary detention of a 26-year-old Turkish national for a period not exceeding one month in connection with the alleged abduction of his two-year-old son from the Republic of Cyprus to the occupied areas.
The suspect was brought before the court again on Monday, where he faced charges related to the violation of a “military restricted zone” and “illegal entry/exit” into the occupied territories.
Additional arrests in the case
Two other individuals were also brought before the court, including the suspect’s father and another man allegedly involved in assisting the abduction.
The second accomplice, who was arrested on Friday, was also ordered to remain in custody for up to one month.
Charges and release conditions
The suspect’s father was charged with aiding and abetting the offence. The court ordered his release under strict conditions, including a bail of 50,000 Turkish lira and a guarantee bond of 500,000 Turkish lira signed by a “citizen” of the breakaway state.
Child remains under care in occupied areas
The child is currently under the supervision of “social services” in the occupied areas, according to reports.
British consular involvement
According to information from the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the child’s British mother has contacted the British High Commission in Cyprus.
The High Commission is reportedly aware of the case and is providing consular assistance regarding the child.
